Gärtringen, 12th June 2013, JDisc released today build 2925 of its network inventory and documentation solution “JDisc Discovery”. Build 2925 is a minor bugfix release containing the following changes and fixes.

• JDisc discovery detects now the interface speed for interfaces with more than 10GB per second correctly. Before, an integer value overflow in the standard SNMP MIB caused wrong results for the speed.
• Deleting networks could lead to a foreign key violation.
• JDisc Discovery deleted the network topology jobs even when the option “clear discovered data only” was used. Now it retains the settings for the network topology jobs.
• In some situations, a race condition within the discovery caused discovery jobs not to end. The discovery job did never finish and required a manual cancelation.

What’s coming next?

We are already working on JDisc Discovery 3.0.  The new release will integrate two new main features:

• A WMI/WBEM browser lets users browse WMI and WBEM data in real time. An export feature enables an easy export of WMI and WBEM data. Similar to a SNMP walk, this data enables our development team to implement new features. Things we have in mind is – for instance – to detect the RAID configuration for servers and their disks. Of course, over time, we will be able to integrate even more configuration related information.
• We will integrate a WLAN discovery into our networking add-on. The WLAN discovery determines for every Windows computer the list of visible WLANs together with their signal strength. Furthermore, we will be able to detect to which WLAN access point a device is connected to. Our extended reporting tells users which WLANs have a pretty good connection to their clients and which ones have a poor connection.
• We are also experimenting with detecting application servers such as IBM WebSphere, JBoss or Oracle WebLogic together with the applications that they are hosting. This is however in an early stage and might not make it into 3.0.
